The bonds of family are forged in sacrifice and resilience, tested in the crucible of war and oppression.

Deported to the icy wilderness of Siberia, they endure unimaginable trials, clinging to their faith and each other.

But as WWII erupts, tragedy strikes, and the family is torn apart. Separated from their parents, Lukas and Maxim must face the brutal realities of war on their own, forced to grow up far too soon. Amidst the chaos, their childhood dream of reaching America flickers like a distant light, a hope that pushes them forward through heartbreak, hunger, and the horrors of conflict.

Will they find their way back to each other—and to freedom? Or will the weight of war extinguish their dream? Edge of Reality is a gripping tale of love, loss, and the unyielding strength of the human spirit.

This beautiful autobiography should be a must for all readers who want to explore an excellent book, I really loved it. The book is about the author's life and all his adventures, some sadder than others. It shows us his life in Siberia ruled by an authoritarian Soviet regime in his country and all the difficult situations he had to go through including the dangers of crossing the borders and the difficulties in the process of obtaining asylum when he managed to leave. Personally, the testimony of courage makes you reflect on the value of freedom and the challenges in the search for a better life, makes you realize realities that in your perception seem impossible but are more normal than they seem and makes you feel completely grateful for the little things you have. I highly recommend it, excellent book

Edge of Reality: From Siberia to Freedom by Jack Grylewicz takes the reader back in time to the days of the Soviet Union right before and during World War 2. The story follows the Bauer family as they attempt to survive being relocated from the Ukraine to Siberia by the Soviet Army. Along the way, they are tasked with helping a boy named Maxim survive the conflict as well. This becomes an almost impossible job as they have to deal with dangerous Russia soldiers, the long and deadly trek from Ukraine to Siberia, and the onset of World War 2. Fans of historical fiction will greatly enjoy this novel and the references to events and people. The author did a great job of researching this topic so he could create a believable story about the horrific events that took place throughout the Soviet Union at this time. It also offers a fresh perspective on the time period that also offers insights into events taking place in the world today.

Edge of Reality: From Siberia to Freedom by Jack Grylewicz is classified as a historical World War II fiction type of book. History has never been a huge passion of mine, but this is fictional. I was hesitant about reading this story about the war, but it has become one of my favorite books I have read this year. I had such a hard time putting this book down. The story was so intense and powerful as the main characters were fighting for their dream to get to America to be saved from the war. The story was not too long, and I was able to finish it in two days, though I could have finished in one if I had more time. Great story!

This is a gripping tale of survival and human spirit. I was deeply moved by the story of Miriam, whose dying wish was to save her son, Maxim. A flight that most parents can relate to. The task falls to Helga and Markus Bauer, along with their son Lukas, who must navigate the harsh realities of life in war-torn Ukraine. As the Soviet Army's regime relocates the people of Ukraine to the Siberian region, they each face unimaginable challenges. The onset of WWII further shatters their lives, separating the family and forcing the boys to grow up quickly amid the chaos. This book beautifully captures the bonds of family and the relentless pursuit of freedom against all odds. It's a reminder of the resilience and courage required to overcome the darkest times. A must read!
